PLI (Practising Law Institute) is the premiere legal continuing legal education venue for cutting edge updates in the law. Every year, PLI hosts a program entitled Advanced Trademark Law. And this year I have been invited along with two co-presenters, to discuss issues related to trademark legal representation among minority owned businesses.

The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) invites schools to participate in the 2021 National Patent Application Drafting Competition. The competition introduces law students to issues arising in U.S. patent law and develops their patent application drafting, amending, and prosecution skills.

I will reprise my role again this year and lecture at the Engineering School. The topic this year is on innovation again, but this time I get into how the sausage really gets made, and what a young business should do to protect their innovation.

Our next speaker in the FOUNDER 2 FOUNDER series is Jessica Hester, RA. Jessica is the owner of Verdant Studio, a nationally recognized architectural firm based in Northwest Arkansas. Jessica's amazing career started in Oklahoma and she's been trailblazing in the architectural world ever since. Jessica has many passions, but one thing we love about Jessica is she recently expanded her business by purchasing a larger architectural firm. Her bold approach to scale and business is matched only by her passion for community and inclusive housing solutions. 

The American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) Diversity in IP Law Committee, along with AIPLA, strongly maintains that the continued inequitable treatment of African-Americans and other communities of color is intolerable.

AIPLA Diversity Committee will be holding a Wellness Check online meeting on Wednesday, June 24th at 3pm EST, where we will have members of our community share thoughts about the recent tragedies of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and others, and the impact on our community. There will also be an opportunity for individuals to further share thoughts and participate in the discussion.
